Presented the concept of ZAAO Pilot EKO square

"ZAAO" Ltd (hereinafter - ZAAO), together with cooperation partners, continues to work on the implementation of the Project's activities, among which it is planned to create a more convenient EKO area for visitors, equipped with digital solutions, in the region of operation of ZAAO.

 

On November 4, at ZAAO Natural Technology Park "URDA" was held the 3rd quarter partners' meeting of LIFE Waste To Resources IP, LIFE20 IPE/LV/000014 (hereinafter referred to as the Project),  during it ZAAO presented the developed concept "Creation of a Pilot ECO Square in Valmiera, Dzelzceļa Street 5", which aims to develop and promote the implementation of circular economy principles in the Vidzeme region, and to transfer its experience to other regions in Latvia.

The concept of the creation of the Pilot EKO square envisages the creation of a more convenient EKO square for visitors, in which the management of the flow of visitors would be ensured with the help of digital tools and solutions, customer self-service options and a more understandable accounting and payment system.

Pilot EKO laukuma atrašanās vietaCurrently, ZAAO is actively working on the development of the construction project "Territorial infrastructure construction at Dzelzceļa street 5, Valmiera", which will also include the concept presented at the meeting. It is planned to develop the surrounding area of the Pilot EKO square by renovating the old buildings and turning it into a modern circular economy and sorted waste collection complex.

The planned site of the Pilot EKO square is in the industrial area, where the municipality of Valmiera region is developing a business-enhancing environment by building a new and safe traffic infrastructure, thus providing residents with easy access to the Pilot EKO square.

Within the framework of the meeting, the project partners also presented conducted research on the habits of the population in textile sorting and the use of electrical engineering, construction of the waste sorting plot at Vietalvas street 5, Riga, which is planned within the framework of the project, the concept of construction waste and material exchange points, as well as presented the experience of implementing the construction waste and construction material circulation system in Austria and Finland, and the existing practice in Latvia.

Latvijas Būvuzņēmēju partnerība dalās informācijā par Somijā un Austrijā gūto pieredziReminding, that at the beginning of this year, ZAAO in cooperation with the Ministry of Environmental Protection and Regional Development (MEPRD) and 20 other cooperation partners in the waste management industry, have started to implement the European Union (EU) LIFE Integrated projects no LIFE20 IPE/LV/000014 “Waste To Resources Latvia - boosting regional sustainability and circularity” (LIFE Waste To Resources IP) activities.

The project will be implemented throughout the territory of Latvia until December 31, 2028, developing the waste management sector, promoting the implementation of circular economy principles and the concept of waste as a resource.

The overall goal of the project is to reduce waste by introducing new material recycling measures and reducing the economic impact on the environment and carbon footprint, fully implementing the measures set out in the National Waste Management Plan of Latvia (2021 – 2028).
